Inevitable.

Dear reader,

The world as we know it is dying and people can no longer be trusted to fix it!

I would be honestly surprised if me let alone any children I might have achieve the ultimate goal of privileged first-world citizens that is being able to reach 80 years old. The world will stop being inhabitable for all 7 billion of us because of the simple truth that effective action against climate change isn’t profitable for those capable of doing it. Of the seven deadly sins, greed is the deadliest. Because our greed dooms the world and all of us who live in it.

I visited the great barrier reef a couple weeks ago. Because now is your last chance to see it before it’s gone. The great barrier reef is dying right now as you read this. This isn’t something that is predicted to happen. This is happening right now and it’s because of global warming. Great Barrier Reef Undergoing a ‘Complete Ecosystem Collapse,’ Scientists Say

The really fucked up thing is that most people in Australia aren’t even aware of this. One of our greatest national icons is in its death throes and we’re all blissfully ignorant.

“oh but it’s okay, right? the government will do something about it”

Yeah, about that. Here’s what they did, they simply lobbied the UN to take the reef off of their “In Danger” list. They did nothing to fix the reef itself. And then in their election campaign they claimed that they had saved the reef by doing this. It’s shit like this that makes me lose faith in those in power.

Thanks a lot to Rupert Murdoch whose company has a near monopoly on news media in Australia for helping spread the deceit. (you can keep up to date on how he’s doing here) It’s thanks to him and his cronies that we’re so misinformed.

So anyway I honestly don’t expect this problem to be solved. People won’t attempt to solve global warming until it’s already too late to save us and suddenly people realise that they can’t keep making money if everyone’s dead.

The upside is that the Earth will be better off without us once we’re gone. So some good can come from all this.

Don’t, dear reader, leave this world a worse place for your children.

sincerely,

Skyler James Xanderson

“Your people are driven by a terrible sense of deficiency. When the last tree is cut, the last fish is caught, and the last river is polluted; when to breathe the air is sickening, you will realize, too late, that wealth is not in bank accounts and that you can’t eat money.” – a Native American saying
